Most people look at this cat and say "lynx". Our old note says the same. Then you notice the ears: tall, black on the back, with long black tufts, and not one spot on the coat. That's a caracal, the cat also called the desert lynx. This caracal plush was made from a photo, made to order for one person. We don't keep ready toys. Every caracal we sew starts with your picture.
The cat with the black ears
The name comes from the Turkish for "black ear". Caracals live across Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia and India, and despite the nickname they aren't true lynxes. They're famous jumpers that can snatch a bird out of the air. And for a big part of the internet, a caracal has one face: Big Floppa.
How this one turned out
This one is young. Round face, light-blue eyes, paws that look a size too big. He's caught mid-step with one front paw lifted toward you, mouth a little open, so you see a pink tongue and small teeth. Dark lines run from his eyes down the muzzle and up the forehead, the way they do on a real caracal.
The ears carry the look. Black backs, white fluffy insides, tufts that end in fine points. Long white whiskers, a cream chest and a bushy ginger tail finish him off.
Your caracal
- Any size, from a shelf kitten to a big floor cat
- The pose from your photo: stalking, sitting or curled up asleep
- Eye colour, coat shade and ear tuft length matched to your picture
- A wire frame in the legs and tail, if you want to pose him
Send us a photo of the caracal you have in mind: your own cat, one from the zoo, or Floppa himself. Tell us what matters most. You see photos of the finished toy before it ships. A caracal plush like this starts from $370, and the quote is free.
Like big desert ears? Our fennec fox plush has a pair too. The house-cat cousin is the ginger kitten, and more wild and pet animals are in our realistic stuffed animals.
The coat is warm tawny ginger, darker along the back and legs, with cream on the chest, the muzzle and around the eyes. The ears are black on the back and white and fluffy inside, with long black tufts at the tips. Fine white whiskers fan out from the muzzle.
- Clear light-blue eyes with dark rims
- A brown nose, a pink tongue and small white teeth
- Shaped toes on every paw
For your caracal we choose the fabrics after we see your photos, so the coat colour, the shading and the ear tufts come out right. Only faux fur, never natural fur. A wire frame for posing can go in on request.
A realistic caracal plush usually takes 2-4 weeks, with a small reserve for the surprises that handwork brings.
The face takes the longest. The black lines, the eye placement and the angle of those tall ears decide whether people see a caracal or just a ginger cat with long ears. We compare it with your photo until it reads right.
You get photos of the finished toy before it ships. If you need him by a set date, say so in your first message.
We ship worldwide. Once your caracal leaves the studio, delivery usually takes 7 to 20 business days, depending on your country.
Holidays slow the post down, and December is the slowest month. For Christmas, order by November 1. More holiday ideas are on our custom Christmas plush page.
He makes a good present for a big-cat fan, a Floppa fan, or someone who keeps sending you caracal videos. Tell us the date, and we'll say right away whether sewing and shipping fit.
We've sewn toys to order since 2009, and realistic animals made from photos are a big part of that work.
You see photos of your caracal before he's packed and can ask for changes then. That's the moment to say if the tufts should be longer or the coat a shade warmer.
If he arrives and you don't love him, you get a full refund within 14 days, for any reason.

Why?
No ready-made pattern. Your photo or drawing doesn’t come with one. Our artist builds the pattern from scratch and turns a flat picture into a 3D toy. It’s the hardest and slowest part.
Materials picked for your toy. The right color, fur length and texture. Sometimes we order fabric just for one project.
Sewn by hand. Every piece is cut, sewn, stuffed and finished by hand. The face takes the most time: move an eye a millimeter and the character changes.
You approve it first. When your toy is ready, we send you photos. Something looks off? We fix it before shipping.
One toy, not a thousand. A factory spreads design costs over thousands of copies. Here, all that work goes into one toy: yours.
That’s why prices start at $350. And on a personal order, if you don’t love your toy, you get a full refund.
