Capybaras win you over with how peaceful they are. They get along with everyone and never seem to be in a hurry. That calm is what this toy was made to carry: a home mascot and a faithful plush friend, as we wrote back then.
Made to look like the animal
The capybara is the largest living rodent. It lives by the water and swims well, so its eyes, ears and nostrils sit high on the head, and its feet are slightly webbed. We kept that shape. A broad, blunt muzzle with a smooth brown nose. Small round ears. Dark glossy eyes set high, with grey fur around them and down the cheeks.
The coat is where this one differs from our first capybara plush, which has short ginger pile. Here the faux fur is long and olive-gold, streaked with darker brown, the way a wet capybara looks after a swim. The legs are short and brown, and every foot ends in smooth brown toes. Long whiskers stick out from the muzzle and the brows.
It stands on all four feet, and it sits up too, nose in the air, like it just heard someone open the snack drawer.

The body is covered in long-pile faux fur in olive gold with darker brown streaks, uneven like a real capybara's coat. Short grey fur rings the eyes and covers the cheeks. The legs are in a shorter brown fur.
The nose, muzzle and toes are made from smooth brown fabric. The eyes are dark and glossy. Long whiskers are set into the muzzle and above the eyes. Everything is sewn by hand. All our materials are premium and hypoallergenic. We only ever use faux fur.

A capybara like this usually takes 2-4 weeks, with spare time kept for handwork surprises.
Long fur takes patience. The pattern has to be cut so the pile lies the right way over the barrel body, and the seams have to disappear under it. The face is the slow part: the high-set eyes, the grey patches and the whiskers decide whether it reads as a capybara or a confused beaver.
