Big, shaggy and a little sleepy-looking. This Appa plush was sewn by hand for one Avatar fan, and every Appa we make starts the same way: made to order, in the size and look you ask for. We don't keep ready toys on a shelf. Yours gets cut and sewn after you write to us.

The sky bison who carried the team

Appa is Aang's flying sky bison in Avatar: The Last Airbender, the Nickelodeon series that ran from 2005 to 2008. He has six legs, thick white fur and a big brown arrow on his head and back, and he flies with airbending. Say "Yip yip" and he takes off. The show's creators, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, described him as a cross between a buffalo and a manatee.

Why order an Appa when shops sell one?

You can buy an official Appa plush. Nickelodeon sells 18-inch and 30-inch ones, and there are pillow versions too. People still come to us, for the same reasons we keep reading in fan forums. They want him bigger ("I'm talking huge"). They want him closer to the show, or they're trying to replace the Appa they had as a kid and lost in a move.

A made-to-order Appa covers all three. You pick the size (small, medium or large, or tell us the length you have in mind), and we build him to match the cartoon or your own version. This one has:

curved black horns, floppy grey ears and a wide grey muzzle with a glossy black nose

Want other colors or a rounder face? Say so. On request we can also add poseable legs and tail, a sound module with Appa's growl, glowing LED eyes, or a name embroidered on him.

Materials used

Appa's coat is long-pile white faux fur, shaggy enough to sink your fingers into, over a dark grey plush belly. His muzzle, face patch and floppy ears are soft grey plush. The big nose is glossy black faux leather, and so are his two curved horns.

The arrow is sewn from brown fabric: a patch on top of his head, then separate stripes down his back to the tail. Every foot has brown toes with cream edges. The matchbox in our photos is there to show his size.

Everything we use is safe and eco-friendly. Want a creamier coat, a different shade for the arrow or poseable legs? Tell us, and we'll build it into your order.

Lead time

Your Appa usually takes 2–4 weeks to make. That covers a pattern for your size, cutting the fur so the pile runs the right way, sewing the arrow stripes, the horns and the nose, and then the face. The eyes and muzzle take longest, because that calm, kind look is what makes him Appa.

The estimate has a small reserve built in, since handmade work sometimes needs an extra evening. When he's finished, we send you photos before shipping, so you meet your Appa first.

Delivery

Delivery time depends on where you live, the courier and the shipping method. It can take up to 20 business days, and sometimes only 7.

Around holidays couriers get busy and parcels run late. If Appa is a gift for a set date, like a birthday, Christmas or a rewatch night with friends, order with time to spare and add the making time to the delivery time.

Tell us your date when you order, and we'll say honestly whether it can work. A sky bison flies fast. The post doesn't.
