Description

Every Hat Kid plush we sew is made to order: one toy for one person, built from what they ask for. There's no shelf of ready Hat Kids here. This one wears lime green and black instead of her usual purple and yellow, because that's the version the customer wanted.

Who is Hat Kid?

Hat Kid is the little alien girl from A Hat in Time, the 3D platformer by the Danish studio Gears for Breakfast. It began as a Kickstarter in 2013 and came out on PC in October 2017. Her spaceship gets damaged, the Time Pieces that fuel it scatter across a strange planet, and she has to win them back before Mustache Girl grabs them. Along the way she knits new hats from yarn, and every hat gives her a new trick.

She hardly says a word in the game. Fans love her anyway, mostly for that smug little face.

Hat Kid in lime green

In the game you can recolor her outfit with dyes. Our customer did the same thing in fabric. This Hat Kid has lime green hair with a long curling ponytail, a lime green cape and collar, and a black outfit with green-trimmed boots. Her tall black top hat has a lime green band, and it comes off, so she can go bareheaded too. A metal zipper pull sits on her chest, a nod to the big zip on her game outfit. The embroidered eyes are half-closed in that smug look, and her arms stretch out wide.

Why fans order her custom

Official Hat Kid plushes do exist. The original one from The Yetee is no longer sold, and fans still ask for a restock. Fangamer has made a Nyakuza Metro Hat Kid and a Bow Kid. But if you want her in the classic outfit, in your own colors, in a different size or wearing a favorite hat from the game, a shop can't help. We can.

Materials used

This Hat Kid is sewn from soft, high-quality plush fabric: lime green for her hair, ponytail and cape, black for the top hat, outfit and boots. The short pile is smooth to stroke and keeps the colors bright, so the green stands out against the black.

The ponytail is stuffed so it curls out behind her and holds its shape. Everything we use is safe and eco-friendly. Want her in the game's purple and yellow, or in colors of your own? We pick fabrics to match your order.

Lead time

It usually takes 2–4 weeks to make your Hat Kid plush, from the first pattern piece to the last stitch.

We draw the pattern for your size, cut the plush in your colors, and sew the head, hair and ponytail so they sit right together. The top hat is made as a separate piece so it can come off. The face comes last and takes the most care. A few stitches out of place and the smug look is gone.

Handmade work sometimes needs the extra week, and that time already allows for it.

Delivery

Delivery times depend on where you live, the carrier and shipping method, and how close it is to the holidays. Most parcels arrive within 7 to 20 business days. Some take just 7.

In peak holiday periods couriers get overloaded, and delays can happen.

Planning Hat Kid as a birthday or Christmas gift for an A Hat in Time fan? Add the making time (usually 2–4 weeks) to delivery and order early. For Christmas, order by November 10. Please keep this in mind when you order a gift that has to arrive by a specific date.
