Ugandan Knuckles Plush With Your Voice

Description

This Ugandan Knuckles plush is the round red meme version of Knuckles, about 30 cm (12 in) tall, and he talks. A small voice module sits inside, and you record what he says. We sew him to order, starting after you message us, for you and the joke you have in mind.

Where the meme came from

Knuckles the Echidna first showed up in Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in 1994. The meme version is much younger. A squat, egg-shaped Knuckles appeared in a 2017 YouTube review of Sonic Lost World, and by late December 2017 that 3D model was all over the social VR game VRChat. Rooms filled up with identical red blobs.

The joke also drew fair criticism. A lot of what players said in character was called out as a racial stereotype, and the avatar's creator said he regretted how it was used. What people still smile at years later is the look itself: a big red bean with tiny legs and a smirk. That's the part we sewed.

How he's made

Wide red body with a white crescent across the chest
Big round eyes, a tan muzzle and a small smirk
Red spines hanging over the back of the head and a black band around the neck
White faux fur mitts with little claws
Red-and-yellow shoes with green cuffs

The voice module sits in a zipped pocket on his chest, just under the neck band, so it's easy to reach.

What to record

Some people want the meme's sound. Others record an inside joke, a birthday message or their own voice for a friend who lives far away. He fits on a gamer's desk or a streamer's shelf, and he gets a reaction at a white elephant gift exchange. Fans still call him a lovable goober and want one, however old the meme is.

Change anything

Bigger, smaller, a different colour or the classic Knuckles instead? Tell us. You see photos of the finished toy before it ships. More Sega friends are on the video game characters page, like our Hyper Sonic plush and Sally Acorn.

We're an independent studio. This is a handmade fan piece, not an official Sega product.

Materials used

Ugandan Knuckles is sewn from soft red plush fabric with a short pile, so the round body stays smooth and the white crescent and tan muzzle keep clean edges. His hands are fluffy faux fur mitts with small claws. We never use natural fur.

Red plush fabric for the body, head and spines
White faux fur for the mitts
Hypoallergenic stuffing, packed firm so the round shape holds
A voice recording module with a battery, in a zipped chest pocket

The pocket means you can reach the module to record a new message, then zip it closed again. If you'd rather have him silent, say so and we'll leave it out.

Lead time

A Ugandan Knuckles plush usually takes 2–4 weeks to make.

We cut the pattern, sew the body and spines, then stuff him so the round shape holds without lumps. The face takes the most care. The eyes and the smirk have to sit just right, or he stops looking like the meme.

The voice module and its zipped pocket go in while we sew. The time frame includes a small reserve for handmade surprises, so if he's a birthday gift, put the date in your first message.

Delivery

We ship worldwide. Delivery usually takes 7–20 business days, depending on your country and the carrier. Around the holidays couriers slow down, so allow extra time.

One thing to check first: the voice module has a battery, and battery rules for parcels differ by country. Shipping to some countries may be restricted. If you're not sure about yours, ask before you order.

Planning him for a gift exchange? Add the making time and delivery together and count back from the date. For Christmas, order by November 1. Before he ships, you get photos of the finished toy.

Guarantee

We've been sewing custom plush since 2009. A meme toy is a tough test, because everyone knows the shape at a glance. If the body is too tall or the eyes sit wrong, he's just a red toy.

So you see photos of your Knuckles before he ships. If you still don't love him, you get a full refund within 14 days, for any reason.

Unsure about the size or what to record? Ask before we start. It's easier to plan a detail in the pattern than to fix it afterwards.
