This realistic Cheshire Cat plush is about 50 cm (20 inches) long, nose to tail, and he spends all of it lying on his side, grinning at you. He's the long, lean cat from the live-action films, not the pink cartoon one. Like everything we make, he's sewn to order: we start after you order, so the cat you get was made for you, not pulled off a shelf.

People who love the Cheshire Cat tend to say the same thing: he's their favorite character and they want one of their own. Ideally one that looks like the Cheshire Cat, only realistic. That's this one.

The cat who stays for the grin

The Cheshire Cat comes from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865). He fades away bit by bit until only his grin is left, and he tells Alice that "we're all mad here." Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland (2010) made him a slim grey cat with blue stripes and slit-pupil eyes, voiced by Stephen Fry, and brought him back in Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016). Our large Cheshire Cat plush follows that look.

What he looks like

Blue-grey faux fur with darker teal stripes on the body, legs and tail, with hand-painted details in the fur

One front paw is raised and his striped tail curls around his back legs. Put him on a bookshelf, the arm of a sofa or the top of a cabinet and he watches the room. With those teeth and claws he's a display piece for grown-up Alice fans, fine for careful hugs, not a toy for small children.

Materials used

The fur is what sells a realistic Cheshire Cat, so it gets most of the work.

Faux fur in blue-grey, with darker teal stripes running across the body, the legs and the long tail
Hand-painted details in the fur, so the stripes and shading look grown in rather than printed
Pink inner ears, a small brown nose and long white whiskers
Green eyes with slit pupils, a row of pointed white teeth and small claws on pale toes

Everything is soft and hypoallergenic. We only ever use faux fur, never natural fur. If you want a different coat, say a pinker cat or wider stripes, tell us before we start so we can pick the fur to match.

Lead time

A large Cheshire Cat plush usually takes 2–4 weeks to make.

We cut the pattern for a long, lying body and a curled tail, then sew the faux fur body. The painted details go into the fur by hand.

The face is last: eyes, nose, whiskers and that grin. It's the part that makes him the Cheshire Cat. The time frame includes a small reserve for handmade surprises. If you need him by a certain date, mention it in your first message.

Delivery

We ship worldwide. Delivery usually takes 7–20 business days, depending on your country and the courier. Around the holidays it can take longer.

A grinning cat makes a good birthday gift for a book lover or someone who collects Wonderland things. Add the making time and the delivery time and count back from the day. For Christmas, order by November 1.

You get photos of the finished cat before he leaves us. He's packed so his whiskers and ears arrive in shape, ready to take his spot on the shelf.

Not sure about the size, the eye color or the pose? Ask before we start. It's much easier to change a detail in the pattern than once the fur is sewn.
